Christening the new 'good room'

So following the delivery of the dining table and other assorted furniture it was time to christen the good room. It was also time to celebrate Fluff's ascension to Anna's stable at Vogue E+T. So One hit the kitchen and whipped up a Sunday lunch of roasted turkey fillets stuffed with brandy soaked figs, parsley and roasted garlic. YUM. Then there were some roasted potatoes (they were meant to be smashed potatoes but turns out I'm not that crash hot at smashing potatoes and some broccoli, beans, sugar snaps and peas with lemon zest.

After all that we had a little breather before it was time to move into the world of One's super crush for a little piece of heaven...

Chocolate layer cake and because One didn't have any fresh flowers to hand, One simply dusted the cake with Dutch Cocoa and some chocolate sand that One had whipped up. One was quite impressed indeed.

It was delicious and having had One's lesson just this past Thursday, One's technique was spot on. Who's coming round for cake?

A new haunt

Today after One had an appointment with Barbie, One popped in to the new kid on the Perth Coffee Scene - Elixir Coffee Specialists.

It was an excellent decision as One had quite possibly the best weekend coffee One has had in a while. It was bitter-sweet and delicious all the way through. Creamy, not too hot and full bodied.

There is also a great little dining room and lots of good looking goodies to go along with your coffee.

Plus the dine in coffee cups are duck egg blue - what's not to love??

A cake in construction...

Tomorrow aflatofonesown is dishing up some delights to foodie extraordinaire Fluff and first sister of soul Solange and currently desert is under construction courtesy of newly learned tricks and techniques from One's class with Rochelle Adonis on Thursday night.

So first step was to make four Chocolate Genoise sponges and while they were cooling, it was time to make a both a dark chocolate and a milk chocolate ganache. Then it was back to Genoise which needed to be cut in half and then stacked with a layer of milk choc ganache in between each layer.

Then it was time to call in a little help from One's special friend, Nigella who hopped up on to the stack and popped into the fridge to cool off and settle.

So the genoise is now in the fridge settling down a bit and One is then going to trim and tidy it a little and then cover in the dark chocolate ganache! YUM

The Final Countdown

Only 3 sleeps to go until...
One is so excited, One doesn't know what noise to make

The Centurion: A new experience

Welcome to post number 100 and what better way to celebrate this milestone but to cook up a new feast. It was a first in cooking this evening, one cooked seafood.

The seafood of choice was some delicious marinated prawns from Kailis Bros Leederville, the only seafood one attends (mainly because the assistants are so nice and helpful) when in need of seafood.

So the prawns didn't need much cooking really and one simply made up a salad of rocket, yellow capsicum, cucumber, chick peas, avo, tomato and topped some toasted almonds.

Then one made a dressing of olive oil, toasted coriander seeds (toasted first then crushed), honey, lemon juice, lime juice, salt and pepper.

Which all in all looked just like this:

Delicious.

Let One Eat Cake

This afternoon One went to one of One's favorite places in Perth - Rochelle Adonis' cake studio! And eat cake, One did. One had the most deliciously moist carrot cake with cream cheese icing and a cup of coffee.

One loves the studio because it is so simple, light and airy and contains such deliciousness - who could not like it.

Rochelle herself was there serving up cakes and deserts to those lucky enough to stroll through the doorway of the studio which is in an old school shop front in the top of the suburb of Perth. There is a large display cabinet that One wanted to bring home and then a couple of high marble topped benches with stools for cake eaters and nougat nibblers.

In other exciting news One is going to a cooking class with Rochelle to learn how to make some of her delicious cakes. YUM!!

A difference of opinion

While One and the SO were in Singapore, a full buffet breakfast was put on by the Hotel each day. Now this is a truly international buffet breakfast that included:
  • juice bar;
  • fruit bar;
  • smoothie bar;
  • pastry bar;
  • waffle/pancake bar;
  • two toast bars;
  • egg stand;
  • asian soup stand;
  • cured fish stand;
  • yoghurt bar;
  • cereal stand;
  • cheese stand;
  • indian curry stand;
  • dim sum stand;
  • bacon/sausage/hashbrown row;
  • random asian of some form stand.
So there was quite a lot of choice. On morning three there was a difference of opinion as to what a delicious breakfast incuded. Now this is not to be a judgment of what a 'healthy' breakfast should include. This is a holiday breakfast.

Breakfast One: Waffle and pancake with bacon, hash browns, maple syrup and cinnamon butter

Breakfast Number Two: Rye Toast with two poached eggs with hollandaise, grilled tomatoes and smoked haddock (or some other cured fish)

Now, One doesn't like eggs, but wishes that One could like eggs because they do make a great breakfast food. But seriously, who can pass up a waffle, a pancake with bacon and maple syrup. And let One tell you about the deliciousness of One's new discovery - cinnamon butter. It is seriously delicious and will be served next time One makes crumpets, which may in fact be this Sunday.

Live Blogging (One hopes there is someone reading)

OK. So picture this, it is 8.05pm, one has been doing swim squad and is driving the Golf home to aflatofonesown so one can have dinner post haste because nothing builds up an appetite like swimming.

One goes to turn into one's driveway and is blocked by a black Mazda SUV. Outraged, one sits in the middle of the street honking the horn expecting some schmuck to come running out of the Pizza shop or the Deli....

Nothing

One parks (legally) on the street, writes a quick note (stating: In future, please DO NOT park across our driveway) and proceeds upstairs hoping for inspiration...

Its now 8.10pm, illegal car still parked. One is hungry, the kind of hungry that resorts to opening a packet of Cheetos and eating them all. Luckily aflatofonesown is a Cheetos free zone (not that one doesn't occasionally pick a small packet up at the supermarket of a Saturday). One decides hunger must be abated before any inspiration can strike.

One makes delicious gourmet tuna sandwich complete with capers, capsicum, tomatoes, capers, Serena Tuna in Oil with chili and leaves that have been washed, salted and had a little squeeze of lemon spritzed on them. Delectable.

OK, its time for inspiration.....

One is becoming a Ranger, one collects camera, heads downstairs (whilst on the phone to the SO) and takes photos. Yes one will send these pictures with a Stat Dec to the Ranger and he will issue a fine! Brilliant

One stomps back upstairs, he he he, one is on fire, FIRE people.

Then, one thinks, what about calling the Ranger now? One hops on the Internet, terrific, one gets through, provides registration details to lovely Town Night Operator Lady who alerts ranger.

Time is 8.47

One decides, one must blog immediately.

9.09pm: One is sitting on One's couch jumping at every noise on the street, ready to shout out to the rude illegal parking people.

9.10pm: One is sitting on One's couch developing dialogue. 'Excuse me, yes you Mazda driver, I'm up here, yes. Hi, Please do not park across our driveway. Its actually really rude. What if someone needed to get a car out?'

9.11pm: One is sitting on One's couch (mmm it is a comfy couch) thinking about taking another photo.....

9.15pm: One is on One's couch, One is thirsty. Time to boil the kettle.

9.19pm: One's phone is ringing. Its Paul from the Town. Paul is on the job, One is sending through One's photos to the Town. 'Leave it to me says Paul'. Terrific!

9.25pm: search for camera cable continues...

9.37pm: Ooooh 3 people walking up street from restaurant down the street. Walking, walking to car.

One: 'excuse me'
Them: looking around
One: 'up here'
Them: looking up
One: 'Hello, can you please not park across our driveway, no one has been able to get in or out'
Blonde #1: 'Oh sorry'
Blonde #2: 'Yes they can'
One: 'Ummm no your car is parked across our driveway'
Blonde #2: 'They must have a big car'
One: 'There's no need to be rude, you have illegally parked and the Ranger has photos'

OK, recap:
- bad behaviour found: check
- vigilante behavoiur by one: check
- report to the authorities: check
- confront perpetrators: Check Check Check!!

YAY

A visit to the Raffles

It was the SO's birthday and what better way to celebrate while in Singapore than with a banquet! On recommendation one made a reservation at theTiffin Room at the Raffles for their North Indian Banquette.

Now over the years One has heard many tips on how to keep track of what One is eating for reports such as this, however thanks to the iPhone, one did not need to make numerous trips to the bathroom, but rather was able to discretely take notes. Unfortunately, the food was so delicious that One forgot to take detailed notes.
